My last post for the summer combines a light, airy stitch with the comfort of what fall brings. This pattern is a combination of double crochet stitches with chains between them to create this open stitch pattern. The scarf wraps around you in an endless ring that can be either draped around your shoulders for a stylish look without being too warm, or wrapped twice as the temperatures start to cool down.
This scarf is made working the width first and adding the length as we add rows, then eventually stitching the two ends together for the infinity scarf look. With each double crochet in this pattern, there will be a chain one space to give the pattern its look. The double crochets are also stitched into the open spaces between each double crochet post to prevent the scarf from looking too boxy.
Materials:
- Worcested weight yarn (4)
- Crochet hook J
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Directions:
- Chain 32
- In the 4th chain (ch) from the hook we’ll do a double crochet (dc), ch 1, skip the next chain and dc into the next chain. Continue *dc, ch 1 (skip 1)* until the end of the row, ending with a double crochet. Ch 3, turn work.
- DC into the ch 1 (open space between the two double crochet posts) space, not into the ch 1 stitch. Ch 1, dc into ch 1 space from previous row. Continue this for the remainder of the row, ending with a DC in the last ch 1 space, then ch 3.
- Repeat previous step until the scarf is 5 1/2″ long, or at the desired length.
- Cut yarn with about 12″ of a tail. Use your tapestry needle to carefully stitch the first and last rows together. Weave your ends in and you’re done!
