Pagoda Triangle Scarf

This week we are making a triangle scarf! A triangle scarf is one that is in the shape of a triangle instead of a long rectangle, or a circular cowl. The rows for this kind of project will get longer as you continue with the scarf.

The Pagoda Triangle Scarf pattern itself uses a series of double crochet stitches, and one row that has both double and triple crochet stitches to create the fun textured pattern. This pattern is a six-row repeat, with each successive row being longer than the previous row because we’ll be adding stitches at the beginning, middle, and end of every row. So let’s get into what we’ll need to make this scarf!

Materials:

  • Two skeins of worcested weight yarn
  • Crochet hook “I” (5.25mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Directions:

  1. Chain (ch) 4, and connect both ends with a slip stitch. This will create a magic ring. Ch 3
  2. 2 double crochets (DC) into the center of the circle, ch 2, then 3 DC into the center of the circle. Ch 3
  3. Create 2 DC into the same stitch as the ch 3 post, then 1 DC into the other two DC from the previous row, 1 DC into the ch 2 space, ch 2, and DC again into the ch 2 space. DC 2, then DC 3 all into the last DC post.
    • The 3 DC into the same stitch at the beginning and end of each row helps to build our rows longer each time, as does the *DC, ch 2, DC* into the middle of the pattern.
  4. Repeat the previous row, only adding stitches into the first/middle (ch 2 space)/end stitches, otherwise doing a single DC stitches in every stitch. End with a ch 3.
  5. 2 DC into the ch 3 stitch, *ch 1, DC* skipping a stitch with each ch 1 until the turning point (which I’ll refer to as the “top”), DC 1, ch 2, DC 1. *ch 1, DC* until the end of the row, ending with 3 DC in the turning chain, then ch 3.
  6. 2 DC into ch 3 stitch, DC all until top. DC 1, ch 2, DC 1. DC all until last stitch, then 3 DC into same stitch. Ch 3.
  7. 2 DC into ch 3 stitch, DC (over ch 1 stitch from two rows down), front post triple crochet (FPTC) into the DC post from two rows down. Repeat the DC, FPTC (from two rows down) until the top, then DC 1, ch 2, DC 1. Repeat this again going back down until there are five DC left, then DC all until last stitch, then 3 DC into same stitch.
  8. 2 DC into ch 3 stitch, DC all until top. DC 1, ch 2, DC 1. DC all until last stitch, then 3 DC into same stitch. Ch 3.

And that’s pretty much the pattern! With the exceptions of the increases and their related DC stitches the pattern is basically:

  1. DC all
  2. DC all
  3. DC all
  4. *Ch 1, DC* across row
  5. DC all
  6. *DC, FPTC (two rows down)

Repeat this pattern five times, ending with three DC all rows.
