In a world filled with mass-produced items, there’s something truly special about crafting your own goods, especially when it comes to items for the home. Crocheting a dishcloth is not only a practical endeavor, but also a delightful journey into the world of creativity and handmade charm. Whether you’re an experienced crocheter or just picking up your first hook, creating your own dishcloth is a rewarding project that anyone can enjoy.
This dishcloth uses the Bar Stitch in crochet which is a two row pattern with a foundation row to get everything started. Below is the written instructions for how to create one (or many) of these dishcloths yourself, and at the end of the page is a video tutorial version to follow along with as well!
Materials:
- 1 skein of any cotton yarn
- Crochet hook H (5.0mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Directions:
- Chain 27
- Foundation row: single crochet (sc) into each chain starting with the 2nd chain (ch) from the hook. Ch 1
- SC across entire row, starting with the turning chain. Ch 1
- SC x 2, thena front post double crochet (FPDC) into the single crochet post from the 1st row (foundation row) directly underneath the stitch you are working into. This will be the 3rd SC stitch in the first row, then every 3rd stitch after. *SC x 2, then FPDC into the SC post two rows down* repeat until there are two stitches left, then SC those. Ch 1
- SC across entire row. Ch 1
- SC x 2, then FPDC into the double crochet post from two rows down. This row is the one we will keep repeating, and will be much easier to do because the DC post will stick out now. SC x 2, ch 1.
- Repeat steps 5 & 6 until there are a total of 35 rows, ending with the FPDC row.
- Bind off, and weave in.
