Alice Scarf

Are you looking for a fun, yet simple way to showcase your crochet talent? The Alice Scarf is an easy moss stitch that uses a couple different colored yarns to create a diverse look. If you aren’t familiar with changing colors in the middle of a pattern, I will go over that. I chose to use two different colors back and forth, but any number of colors can be used here to personalize your scarf!

Materials for this scarf are similar to others we’ve made before:

  • Any worcested weight yarn. Pick two colors of the same brand and style for a more consistent look.
  • Crochet hook “I” (5.5mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

With all those in hand, let’s get started:

  1. Chain (ch) 35
  2. In the 3rd ch from the hook, do a single crochet (sc), then ch 1. Skip the next stitch, then sc into the next stitch, ch 1. Repeat this sc 1, ch 1 until you reach the last stitch, then sc 1. Ch 2 and turn work.
  3. Sc into the ch1 space from the previous row (between two single crochets), ch 1, sc into ch 1 space. End with sc in the turning chain.
  4. Repeat step 3 until scarf measures 14″.
  5. When you are about to do the last sc stitch, stop just before you would bring the yarn through both loops for the sc. Bring new color in, holding it against the scarf and pulling it through the two loops to complete the single crochet stitch. Ch 2 with the new color.
  6. Continue as before until the new color is 14″ (28″ total).
  7. Repeat that pattern twice more for a total of four colors.
  8. Bring the first row together with the newest row to join the scarf together. Continue using the moss stitch, with each sc going through both ch 1 spaces from each of the rows.
