Toddler Crochet Hat

Are you a crochet enthusiast looking to create an adorable and practical accessory for the little ones in your life? Look no further! In this blog post, we’ll provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to make a stylish crochet toddler hat. With just a few supplies and some basic crochet stitches, you’ll be able to create a cozy hat that’s perfect for colder days.

The materials needed for this hat are listed below, but you’ll want to pick something that is soft and warm. Something that you can clean easily is also a great thing to keep in mind because they will inevitably get these hats dirty. With those things in mind, let’s take a look at what we will need to create this hat.

Materials Needed:

  • DK weight yarn in the color of your choice
  • Crochet hook G
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Follow the steps below to learn how to make this look for your little one:

  1. We’re going to start out by chaining (ch) 52.
  2. The main stitch we will be using for the entire hat is the Half Double Crochet (HDC). Starting with the 3rd chain from hook, HDC into the back loops of the foundation chain to the end of the chain. Ch 2
  3. Into the back loops of our foundation row, HDC across whole row, ending with a HDC through both loops (like normal), and ch 2
  4. Repeat step 3 for 50 rows, the whole project should be about 18″ long and should look like a rectangle.
  5. Bring the first and last row together, and join them with a single crochet (sc) through the stitches from each row.
  6. Once you have what will look like a small cowl, choose an end to be the top, and using your tapestry needle, close the top together using a star pattern. Assuming the last stitch you made is the bottom right portion of the star, bring your needle up to the top center and thread the yarn through. Keep threading the yarn through the circlular top creating a star and pull everything together. Continue bringing the ends together and pulling the yarn tight.
  7. Weave all of your ends together. Flip the hat inside out and you can see the new hat shape. I like to fold the end up to create a cute brim.

Congratulations! You have now successfully created a cozy and stylish crochet toddler hat. Not only will this hat keep the little one warm during the colder months, but it will also showcase your creative skills. Remember to personalize it with your own unique touches to make it even more special. Share your finished hat with us and let us know how this tutorial worked for you. Happy crocheting!
