Crochet Can Cozies

Continuing with some summer project ideas, I came up with a simple crochet can cozy. This uses a combination of two common crochet stitches, the double crochet, and half double crochet to build up this pattern. I used two colors for the purpose of the video, but you can use as many colors as you think would fit!

If you are new to crochet, or looking for something to do when it’s too hot to work with thicker yarn (or warm projects in general), this is a great little project to start! You can easily crochet a few of these up before your next outing.

For this little project, you’ll need:

  • Cotton yarn (size 4). For the purpose of this pattern, I will be using Color A and B
  • Crochet hook “I” (5.25mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

This project starts out using the magic circle to get that circular shape.

  1. With Color A, chain (ch) 4, slip stitch (sl st) into first chain to create the ring. Ch 3
  2. Working into the center of the ring, make 11 double crochets (dc). End with a sl st to complete the new circle. Ch 3
  3. 2dc into each stitch to double the amount of stitches, ending with a dc into the top of the ch 3 (to make the last double dc). Sl st and ch 2
  4. Half double crochet (hdc) into each stitch, sl st.
  5. Using Color B, insert the new strand of yarn into the loop from previous row. Cinch Color A shut, you can tie the two colors together so they don’t become loose while you continue to crochet. Ch 2 with Color B and work hdc for the remainder of the row, ending with a sl st. Ch 2
  6. Repeat step 5 for rest of cozy. Switch colors every other row (2 rows/color) until you have 9 hdc rows total.
  7. Tie off, and weave in all ends.

To be able to see these steps, and follow along that way, a video is posted below!
