Crochet Cat Coaster

Summer can be a slow time for us who love to crochet. Who wants to think about warm hats, fuzzy scarves, or cozy blankets when it’s so hot out?! Well, for those of us that still like to keep ourselves busy, these cute little crochet coasters are a great way to pass some time and get some fun looking coasters for our cold drinks.

This is based on the simple crochet coaster (previously posted), but with a little twist at the end to get the cat-like ears. Follow along for the step by step tutorial on how to achieve this look. At the end of this post there is also a YouTube video that shows each step in case it’s easier to follow along that way.

Materials Needed:

  1. Any skein of cotton yarn, Size 4. I used colors often seen with cats, but I think any color you choose would be fun.
  2. Crochet Hook “H”
  3. Scissors
  4. Tapestry Needle

Step-by-step Directions:

  1. Chain (ch) 4, then connect the first and last chains with a slip stitch (sl st)
  2. Ch 3, then double crochet (dc) x11 into the center of the ring created in step 1. Connect with a sl st. (12 stitches)
  3. Ch 3, then 2 dc into each stitch, ending with a dc into the ch3 space from the beginning. (24 stitches)
  4. Repeat step 3 (48 stitches)
  5. Ch 1, half double crochet (hdc) and dc into same stitch space, then 2 treble crochets (tc) into next stitch.
  6. Going down the last tc, do 3 single crochets (sc), ending with a sl st into the next stitch on the cat’s head. Cut yarn (leave enough to weave in ends)
  7. Skip 7 stitches, and ch 1. Turn work and repeat steps 5 & 6 working towards the first ear. Cut yarn.
  8. Weave ends with tapestry needle.

That does it for this project! As in life, you can’t just have one cat, so be sure to make a few of these adorable coasters!
