Learn to knit with the Brioche Knit stitch! This stitch is more of an intermediate stitch, but well worth learning to do.

So, let me just start out by saying, I LOVE this type of knit! I use it wherever I can, so I’m sure somewhere down the line there will be another pattern involving this type of stitch. Once we get past the foundation row, the pattern itself is very repetitive and you’ll be knitting without thinking in no time.

All right, so for this project we’ll need a few things:

  • 3-4 skeins of any super chunky yarn
  • Size 13 knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

The pattern itself may sound or look complicated, but it’s really not. There is also a video below showing you how to create the stitch as well!

  1. Cast on 22 stitches
  2. Foundation row:
    1. With the tail in FRONT of the needle as if to purl, slide first stitch off onto the working needle
    2. Knit next stitch, bringing the yarn over (YO) the needle to the back (it should look as if there are now three stitches on the needle)
    3. Bring the yarn back to the front, and slip next stitch as if to purl, then knit the next stitch, bringing the yarn around to the back over previous stitch
  3. Remaining rows:
    1. Slip first stitch as if to purl (yarn in front)
    2. Knit two stitches together – One is the slipped stitch from previous row, the other is the Yarn Over
    3. Continue these two steps for rest of row
